vga is the vga type, -net will enable wifi/vEthernet in the vm and -usb… you can figure it out.ħ.
you can change the d into a c to boot from the hard drive. hda is the hard drive file, -cdrom is the cdrom file, -m is RAM in megabytes, i gave it 1GB, -boot d means to autoboot into the d: drive which is the cdrom drive. Qemu-system-i386 is the machine type, and 1386 emulates an 80386, 80486 and the pentiums. Qemu-system-i386 -hda windows2000.qcow2 -cdrom windows2000.iso -m 1024 -boot d -vga cirrus -net nic -net user -usb
Run qemu for the first time, here’s the command: move your iso image of windows 2000 into your vm folder via file explorer and call it windows2000.iso 6. if you make an img or a vmdk it will be a fixed size.ĥ. only qcow2 disks are dynamically allocated. size=8G means maximum size=8gigabytes and the windows2000.qcow2 is the name. And you will still need a product key to run it, even in a VM, as it does not come for free. You will have to take your chances on the Net. f means format, just type raw and so setup can format it by itself. Microsoft no longer has any downloads for Windows 2000 available. make a new vm folder preferably called win2000 and go into it. this will be created in your user folder. I already did so i will just type cd qemu-vm. TYPE md qemu-vm to create folder and then type cd qemu-vm. make a new directory called qemu-vm and we will be putting all our vm’s in here.
